“Sydney violent attack” A festive Jewish Hanukkah celebration at Sydney’s Bondi Beach ended in tragedy on Sunday evening, leaving at least 16 dead and dozens injured in a mass shooting authorities described as a targeted antisemitic attack.

Attendees at “Chanukah by the Sea” reported scenes of panic as gunfire rang out, forcing families to flee in all directions. The normally lively beachfront became chaotic, with screams, overturned tables, and people desperately searching for loved ones.

Witnesses said gunshots came in rapid succession, followed by panic and confusion. Parents grabbed children, hiding behind vehicles and beach facilities, while others helped the injured until emergency services arrived.

Police and paramedics arrived quickly, setting up a secure perimeter and transporting victims to nearby hospitals. Several remained in critical condition as doctors worked through the night to stabilize the wounded.
Father and son identified as suspects

Authorities confirmed the attackers were a father and son, aged 50 and 24. One suspect died at the scene, while the other remains hospitalized under police guard. Explosive materials discovered nearby suggested the attack may have been intended to cause even greater harm.
A civilian bystander intervened during the assault, tackling and disarming one of the gunmen. Officials credited the action with preventing additional casualties.
Nation mourns as leaders react

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the attack, calling it “an act of hatred and violence against innocent people.” Security was heightened nationwide, and vigils were held to honor victims. Investigations continue into the attackers’ motives and possible extremist links.
